In 1979 there were 750 MichCon employees who became eligible for retirement. Three hundred seventy-seven accepted; men and women from upper management, middle management, first line supervisors, union and non-union workers.  At a small party given for a group of retirees, at Carl's Chop House, a discussion came up about organizing a Retiree Club.  Present were Art Malecki,  "Jim" McIntyre, and Frank Grzywacz.  An appeal was made to the Company and Frank Grzywacz was assigned to investigate into the possibilities of organizing such a Club.  A letter went out to all retirees notifying them of plans to form a Club for all Company and Associate Companies' retirees. The first meeting, chaired by Frank Grzywacz, was held at River Rouge Recreation Center on September 11, 1979.
